I have a 2021 model with 50k km and no problems.
It’s your money and your choice. Make sure to do your homework. All car brands have issues. I’ve owned at least 20 vehicles – GM, Ford, Audi, Dodge, Subaru, etc. I’ve had two Kia Tellurides in the last four years with zero complaints. This isn’t the Kia of the past.
We bought a brand new 2023 and right after driving it off the lot, we had an issue with the driver’s power seat. My husband tried to move it while vacuuming and now it won’t budge when he tries to adjust it back.
I’m sure it’s an easy fix when we take it to Kia, but it’s an inconvenience. But hey, we know new cars can have problems. Other than this, we really enjoy it.
@Chancey
There’s a recall for that issue. Please contact the Kia dealer for a free fix. There have also been problems with insurances covering certain models due to theft risks. If you own an older model, the upgrades should be free as well. Stay safe.
I had a 2022 EX until last month. I’m in the minority but I disliked it. It handled poorly, had no power, the windshield cracked three times, and it looked like every other bland grey SUV on the road. I traded it in for a 2023 Stinger GT and now it’s a joy to drive. . It costs more, is less practical, but it’s so much fun.
My point is to drive what makes you happy. If you can afford it, go for what you want! The Telluride is nice, especially if you need a family vehicle, but it just wasn’t right for me. I drove it for 2 years and 32,000 miles. If you’re after an engaging driving experience, a three-row SUV isn’t what you want.
If you’re worried about reliability and are okay doing maintenance, other brands have models similar to the Telluride with better reputations. My family has been using Toyota SUVs or 4x4s for over 30 years and we’re impressed with how they just work without any major issues through that time with four vehicles.
I bought a 2024 Telluride EX last July. Love the car, but the dealer service has been less than great. The one I purchased from had no appointments available for an oil change for three months. I went to a different dealer and had to pay for it there. They told me only my dealer would cover free oil changes or warranty repairs. Has anyone else had a similar experience? I’m in the Puget Sound, WA area.
@Bali
Yeah! I bought from PA but live in CT because the PA dealer wasn’t charging ‘market adjustments’ a year ago. A nearby garage in NY wanted $10k extra last year!
My local Kia dealer started charging for service! I thought it was included for a few years like my other vehicle.
A lot of Tellurides reportedly burn oil, leading to engine failures. Keep an eye on that. Kia thinks burning a quart every 1k miles is just fine! It’s not.
On a positive note, I drive a new BMW M3 that doesn’t burn a drop of oil, even when driven hard with 500 hp.
I loved my car I got in February, but since October, it’s had one electrical issue after another. It’s frustrating, but I feel like it’s just a lemon. When it runs well, I adore the car.
I had a 2021 SXP with no problems. Perfect car. I bought a 2024 SXP XLine in October and have had zero issues so far, with about 3,000 miles on it.
I’m on my second Telluride and already have a spot on the waitlist for my third!
I previously owned a Sorrento, which was nice, but not exciting. Now the Sorrento has really improved its style and is competing with the Telluride.
I’ve had a 2022 for a couple of years now, but I don’t drive much. I don’t have any issues to report, but I’ve only got 13,000 km on it. I got the extended 7-year warranty just in case. I don’t think it’ll last as long as a Toyota or Honda, but I really do enjoy driving it. I’ve heard that the engine might have issues after 250,000 miles but I doubt I’ll ever reach that. My last car had 110,000 km in 13 years. Oh, the headliner has developed an annoying rattle and there are 3 recalls I need to sort out. I do my oil changes every 6 months as the manual suggests since my driving is usually just short trips with the Penzoil ultra platinum 5w30.
Did you end up getting a Telluride? I owned a 2022 SXP for a year and when it was totaled, I saw it as a chance to leave the Kia brand.

That’s rough! I’m sorry to hear it. Yes, I have one now and so far, it’s been good.

What caused your Telluride to break down? Any tips or suggestions to maintain it?
@Emmy
Mine didn’t break; I enjoyed it until it was in an accident and totaled. My experience with Kia service was terrible, and I didn’t want to deal with them again. Even small issues became major headaches. My wife’s coworker has a Kia, and her engine failed. She’s been waiting for a replacement for about 10 weeks now.
As others have said, a car is not an investment. I’d suggest checking out the Grand Highlander instead of a Kia. Toyotas are more reliable. My 2023 Telluride is my first Kia and it’s been in the shop for the last five weeks with the dealer still figuring out the issue. I love the car, it runs beautifully, but I’ve spent more time with the dealer than actually driving it.
I would wait for the new Armada with the 450 HP V6 if you buy new. If you own a business, consider buying it through your business and deducting the cost in the first year. If not, creating a small business could make such purchases easier.

Is tax fraud being recommended here?
