Long Term Reliability of the Telluride

I looked through the forum for this topic but couldn’t find exactly what I wanted. How many people here have driven their Telluride over 100,000 miles? What does reliability look like for these vehicles past that point? I’m really curious about long-term reliability and how well they stand up. I’m planning to buy a 3-row vehicle later this year and I’m considering the Telluride and Highlander. The new Highlander is quite unattractive, but Toyota is known for making dependable vehicles. We tend to keep our cars for as long as they meet our needs, so it’s important to me that they can last a long time

When we test drove the Highlander, it felt cheap compared to the Telluride. The Telluride is rated as one of the best by Consumer Reports for a reason, and its warranty is impressive too. We own a 2009 Ford Edge with 70,000 miles, so we prefer to keep our vehicles for a while. We had a 2021 VW Atlas for a few months, but it had a lot of problems. It looked nice, but we were eager to get rid of it

Kia’s warranty is great, but I’m really interested in what happens after it ends. I haven’t been in a Highlander yet, but I can’t ignore their long-term reliability even if the vehicle itself isn’t my favorite

@Avi
Not sure many drivers have hit the 100,000-mile mark yet for a vehicle that has been out for less than three years. Carmax shows the highest mileage for any Telluride at 55,000 for resale, and Driveway mentions one at 67,000 miles here in Oregon. You might need to wait another year or two for clearer information

@Chan
Check the forum… There are people who have gone over 100,000 miles

@Avi
I’m at 65,000 miles on my 2020, and it feels rough. The plastic moldings are falling apart. I’ve just ordered a 2022 Ford Expedition Platinum Max 4x4; it should arrive before my Telluride falls apart

The engine and transmission in the Stinger have shown to be nearly bulletproof, so I think the drive train should be solid. I’ve really put my Telluride through its paces in the last two years and haven’t had a single issue

How’s your Telluride doing so far? I’ve been considering it a lot lately

Bump! Same here!

@Addison
How’s the Telluride treating you?

I went through the same situation. I have a 2006 GX470 with 185,000 miles. We just bought a 2022 Telluride and are waiting for delivery. I had similar concerns, but from everything I’ve seen, if you keep up with maintenance, it should be quite dependable past 100,000 miles.

Just so you know, I feel that Toyota isn’t what it used to be. Their products are technologically behind, and the interiors seem cheap and don’t hold up as well. I love Toyota and Lexus, but they seem different now

Didn’t this model come out in 2020?

Yes, but some people drive a lot. I think I saw someone here a few months ago who was close to that mileage

I have a 2020 model with 55,000 miles and it’s doing fine. From my research, high mileage isn’t the death sentence it used to be. Nowadays, most car parts wear out over time rather than from use

If long-term reliability is your main concern, go for the Toyota. The Telluride’s reliability ratings are impressive, but the oldest models haven’t been on the road for three years yet. It’s definitely nicer than the Highlander in every way, but you might sacrifice the peace of mind that comes from Toyota’s reputation for reliability

@Chin
I was worried about this too. I know a few people with Hyundais and Kias, so I asked them before I made my decision. Just in case, I got an extended bumper-to-bumper warranty

Any issues with your Telluride?

@Chase
Nope. I’m approaching 40,000 miles!

I’m currently driving my 2008 Toyota 4Runner, which is long paid off. I have not had any issues beyond normal wear and tear. Is it comfortable? Not really. It has serious blind spots and lacks modern safety features. Will it ever die? Probably not—it’s a tank.

I am upgrading to the Telluride to treat myself and to comfortably travel with my family and dog, making memories along the way. I really tried to find a Toyota I liked, but after I drove the Telluride, everything else like the Highlander, Ascent, X5, and MDX just didn’t compare

I’ve owned Kia products for six years with no major mechanical issues. I do like the new Corolla and Supra, but most of Toyota’s other models feel outdated like Nissans. They’ve mostly been updating them slightly and changing body panels. I would go with any other brand
