Is the automatic emergency braking system damaging our Telluride?

We have a steep driveway, and a few times a week when backing down our '24 Telluride, the automatic emergency brake engages and brings the car to a sudden halt. Just to clarify, we don’t actually hit the ground. I’ve attempted to turn off the sensor, but it still occurs, even when we go down extremely slowly. The only real solution most of the time is to go at a slight angle.

I’d appreciate any tips, but if this continues, should I be worried about the vehicle?

If it keeps happening, it means you’re not completely disabling the sensor—only the audible alert. Hold the parking sensor button for five seconds, and you’ll notice the display change from empty sensors to a picture showing no sensors behind the vehicle. It will reactivate if you shift out of reverse and then back into it.

Oh wow, I’ll give this a try the next time I drive it. Thank you so much!

It doesn’t damage the car any more than using the brakes manually, but this would be confusing for me.

Yeah, it’s not ideal, especially when backing up in a tight parking lot. It struggles to distinguish between a car approaching you and a parked car in the space across from it.

Not really …I don’t think so!
