I'm afraid to take action

We usually stick to Toyota and Subaru, but I really love the Telluride. My husband is hesitant about getting a Kia. From what I’ve seen in this group, it looks like the car has a lot of problems. I don’t want to spend $50k on a car that will constantly need repairs. The other option is the Subaru Ascent, which isn’t as roomy or appealing as the Telluride. Any thoughts?

From what I’ve noticed, it looks like the Ascent has even more problems than the Kia. I used to rebuild Subarus, and the first generation was really bad.

When you search for reviews online, most of what you find will highlight the negatives. The majority of people don’t post to give praise.

You test drove both the Ascent and the Telluride, but the Ascent didn’t meet your expectations. You ended up buying a 2024 Telluride EX and haven’t had any issues so far. The seat recall was handled quickly, and oil changes have been simple. While you don’t think Kia is quite on Toyota’s level yet, you feel they’ve improved overall. Previously, you had a 2005 Legacy GT that turned into a money pit with issues like four struts and a leaking head gasket. Before the Telluride, you owned a Sequoia, which cost you about $2,000 a year in random repairs. You believe regular maintenance will take the Telluride to 100k miles, which is your plan.

Before getting the Telluride, you owned a Subaru Forester and a Toyota Venza, each for over five years, and experienced only minor issues with both. In your experience, the Telluride hasn’t had more or fewer issues compared to those cars.

You were hesitant about getting the Telluride, especially after dealing with a buyback from Honda, and wondered why you’d switch to a brand not known for reliability. However, your experience with Honda showed you that any brand can have issues. Now, you don’t regret getting the Telluride. Your dealership service experience has been positive, with the only recall (for the seat) resolved during an oil change. You’ve driven 8,000 miles without any issues and often receive compliments on the vehicle. No regrets with your 2024 SXP X-Pro.
