Hey Telluride community, I used to own a 2016 Honda Pilot EX-L that I bought new in 2017. I absolutely loved it until my 17-year-old son totaled it two weeks ago (note to self: don’t let 17-year-olds drive your car. Thankfully, he’s fine and no one was hurt, except the car). As I’m now in the market for a new vehicle, the Telluride has caught my eye, mainly due to its design and high ratings. However, I still have a soft spot for the Honda Pilot. Should I stick with my reliable old favorite, or should I explore something new and different? What are your thoughts on the Telluride vs. the Pilot?
“I test drove both, and the difference was clear—it wasn’t even a competition (and I’ve been a lifelong Honda driver).”
“There’s really no comparison. The Telluride comes out on top in every way.”
I’m a longtime Honda fan, having owned multiple models like the Civic Si, Accord, CRV, and even Honda motorcycles and ATVs. In 2021, I test drove the Pilot and Passport, and while solid, they didn’t wow me. Then I drove the Kia Telluride, and it was a game-changer—better in every way, from the interior to technology. It felt like a vehicle that should cost $30k more. Even the Acura MDX couldn’t match up. While I’m not sure if the 2024 Pilot has improved, back then, the Telluride was clearly superior. Also, the 4Runner was disappointingly outdated.
Just open the doors of the 2025 Telluride and Pilot and look for the weld points between the windows and the door body. The Pilot is poorly constructed. Stamped doors are twice the cost of welded ones, and while they use the same sheet metal, the production yield is cut in half. How can you even compare the Pilot to the Telluride? Are you serious?
I did a detailed comparison of the specs for the 2023 Telluride and Pilot. I don’t believe much has changed for 2024, so I think the comparison is still relevant.
