Telluride 2024 x-pro

Hello Experts, I have a question regarding the starting point for negotiations based on the attached window sticker. What are the items I should negotiate right away? From previous discussions, it’s advised not to pay for Freight and Handling. In the case of this sticker, what about the ebony paint, terracotta interior, floor mats, and wheel locks? Should those also be considered non-negotiable? Thanks.

I’ve never seen anyone negotiate on freight charges or for specific paint or interior colors. The floor mats and wheel locks are typically non-negotiable too, as they’re included from the factory. Dealers often add unnecessary upcharges, but it doesn’t seem like you’ve listed any of those.

The only number that truly matters is the out-the-door (OTD) price. The best way to negotiate is by getting OTD numbers from two or more dealers. A weaker alternative is making the dealer think you’ll walk away if they don’t meet your price (“My wife won’t let me spend more than $XX,XXX”).

Don’t pay extra for paint colors—tell them to find you another color or cover the cost. As for door edge guards, wheel locks, etc., tell them you don’t want those and to remove them. Reject any paint sealant charges and insist they cover the cost if it’s already applied (since it’s minimal).

There’s a lot of focus on discounts from MSRP, but that’s not the smartest approach. Dealers are happy when you’re distracted by MSRP discounts because they can still hit you with extra costs later, like dealer-installed options, Doc Fees, and other made-up charges.

Negotiation basics:

The one in a rush loses.

If you’re not willing to walk away, you’re not negotiating—you’re begging.

There will always be another deal.

I was able to negotiate an overall discount off the MSRP, getting $2,300 off the window sticker along with cargo mats and a cargo tray included.

I got my 2024 X-Pro with carpeted mats and Telluride WeatherTech mats for $49,640, down from $52,000.

Since I can’t upload the sticker, here’s the breakdown of the pricing I’m looking at for your input:

Top MSRP: $53,385

Ebony Black paint: $495

Terracotta interior: $295

Carpeted floor mats: $225

Wheel locks: $65

Inland Freight and Handling: $1,395
This brings the total MSRP to $55,860.

My questions are:

  1. When negotiating the OTD price, should I start based on the top number or the bottom?

  2. Based on u/Silly-Campaign-2538’s post about getting an X-Pro for $49K OTD, should I offer $49K OTD?

  3. For the 2024 versus 2025 model, there will be more leverage on the 2024, but how much more should I expect to pay for the 2025 model?

I’m more interested in the Prestige X-Line than the X-Pro, but would appreciate any insights on these numbers. I’m new to negotiating, so thanks in advance for the help!
