It’s common now to have 2 kids and a 7-seater SUV. I get that it’s normal today, but I still find it weird.
We have another sibling on the way. It’s smart to think ahead when making a big purchase like this.

You get a 6-seater if you go for captain’s chairs. We have a 3-row because of our 2 kids. We use the third row often for grandma or their friends and keeping it down gives us a ton of cargo space for groceries or running other errands.
I think it’s worth the extra cost if you can handle it.
@Beckett
I’m fine with my current arrangement and don’t plan on buying one. I’m glad it works for you all.

You can fit two kids in the captain’s chairs with a dog in between and pack luggage for four on the folded third row. You might be surprised at how little space you actually have.

That’s wise planning, actually.

With kids, you can expect that their friends will come along too. It helps to have space for everyone in one car. Plus kids gather a lot of stuff like sports gear or toys, and those diaper bags can fill up your car quick.
@Clove
I have a kid and also raised my younger brother who’s much younger than me. I’ve never needed more space than what a BMW 3 Series offers. Personally, I grew up in an E30, my little brother in an E46, and my son fits perfectly in my E46 wagon. Different needs for different folks. I totally respect the other side just can’t relate to it.
@Dare
It really depends on your usage though. A 3 Series works fine for two adults and two kids if you’re just driving around the neighborhood. But for extended trips, you’ll need extra space.

We took 18-hour road trips with 3 kids and all their luggage in an E30. It was perfectly fine.
We’ve also used my wife’s smaller car for trips with a toddler and 3 adults, along with luggage and a stroller. No issues at all.
Again, different strokes for different folks. I’m not saying my way is better.

You’re paying a premium just for a BMW badge. That’s the norm now, but it doesn’t make much sense.
You’ve hit the nail on the head for your needs. This is made for people who don’t want to drive a minivan. It’s kind of the ultimate middle-class mom car for those who can’t afford a Tahoe or Denali.

The SX model is common in wealthier areas where I live, but I don’t see many lower trims.

But remember, it’s still a Kia.

I drive the car, not the badge. That’s probably why cheaper luxury models exist.

True. Considering all the quality issues Kia has had recently…
@Carmine
My Telluride was problem-free for 70k miles and felt much nicer than other entry-level luxury models. People who only care about the badge seem shallow to me.

Ah, I see your point.
@Carmine
What exactly are you getting at?
@Carmine
It’s funny how you flip the script on a ‘base Macan’ line and then dismiss using hype in another thread. Pick a lane, man.

The brand definitely matters to some folks.
