Are Kia Tellurides really as bad as people say they are

I see a lot of folks criticizing them and their reliability can be questionable but are they really as problematic as other brands that need a lot of maintenance? Is the comfort really that bad too

The Telluride keeps winning in comparison tests. It’s a great 3 row SUV. Maybe not as reliable over time as a regular, non-hybrid Highlander but it offers a better ride with more space, more features for the price, and a 100K warranty

@Breck
If it meets your needs and the test drive goes well, I’d say go for it since it comes with that big warranty. If anything goes wrong, you can sell it after the warranty ends

People think they’re bad? I see them as one of the most highly rated and desired SUVs out there

These cars are still very popular. If they had major problems, they wouldn’t be in such high demand for so many years. Personally, if I were looking in that category, I wouldn’t hesitate to buy one. We are even thinking about getting one for our daughter when she gets her license next year since the value for money compared to the Palisade is excellent relative to other brands.

I would check out everything in that category, though I’m not a fan of the Subaru Ascent. We had one for about a year and got rid of it because it had too many issues. I really like the new CX90 and we are thinking about that as a replacement for our F-Pace S

@Alva

The rise of Jeep Wranglers, Liberties, Cherokees, Dodge Durangos, etc., shows that if a car is poorly made, people will still buy tons of them. It’s like the Apple effect

They aren’t bad, but keep your expectations realistic

It’s an SUV built on a front-wheel drive minivan platform focused on style. The ride and interior quality is similar to other brands at that price level, but they have good tech. It’s about the same as Volkswagen or Toyota but not quite as good as Mazda. Don’t think you’re getting a budget BMW

They are likely as reliable as their competitors since most rivals use next-gen technology or never had a good reputation for quality in the first place. The Telluride has improved now that earlier issues were resolved before the facelift.

The big advantage is the warranty and price, especially if you find a dealership willing to negotiate. Just remember, it’s not worth paying extra

It’s a Kia, one of the most famously cheaply made car brands, competing against some of the world’s best automakers that produce great mid and full-size SUVs. They are losing in every area except price. You get what you pay for

What non-EV cars offer similar technology and features for the price

Kia and Hyundai have more features for less money because they cut corners behind the scenes, trying to look as good as Toyota, Honda, and Mazda. Their recent issues with engine immobilizers won’t be the last we hear about

@Aeron
Honestly, the adaptive cruise control. I know it’s not a Tesla but I’ve heard Hyundai offers the best that isn’t Tesla

The adaptive cruise in most brands does the lane centering look of driving itself thing. BMW allows fully hands-off driving in their latest Driver Assist Pro but you can’t get that in a Hyundai or Tesla.

That said, Hyundai/Kia is doing a good job making people overlook their big problems because they have more gadgets than others

@Cai
They don’t have big problems, though

@Cai
Could you explain their problems?

The two biggest issues with Kia currently are the immobilizers and the engines built in the U.S. Neither is a problem for the Telluride.

I’m really asking because I’m about three days away from buying one, as I’m struggling to find issues compared to other cars in the same class. Kia had a bad reputation for a while, but from what I’ve seen, they’ve turned things around and now make a pretty good car.

I’m not the type who cares much for gadgets (though my fiancée likes them so that’s probably worth an extra grand to me if there’s a comparable model). From what I can see, I need a grill cover and that seems to be all

This is wild, I bought my Mazda like 5 or 6 years ago and you were around complaining about them. A man on a strange mission

@Dell
Thanks for noticing that

I’m not saying it’s a great car, I definitely wouldn’t buy one, but if someone’s on a budget…
